Motocross: Riders go full throttle
DISS MCC held a round of the Maxxis British Sidecarcross Championship in perfect sunshine at Wattisfield on Sunday, with supporting solo races for local riders to experience the thrills and spills of this challenging circuit.
While the sidecars attracted a large crowd and the front runners entertained to show why they are the best in the country the only local outfits of Paul Hubbard, from Wattisfield, and Paul Hubbard, from Walsham-le-Willows, struggled to score any points this year.
Short and sharp solo races kept the crowd excited all day with heats, semis and finals to group riders into their four races.
Will Kerry of Discs had a good day with a second, fifth, and a seventh in the grand final.
Ben Talbot was doing well with two reds and leading the final, before crashing hard and having to retire. Race 16 provided the best racing with Charlie Downes, of Stanton leading, then crashing.
Johnny Ellis of Troston then took up the lead only to crash on the last lap. Chris Townsend, of Botesdale, came through to win with Ellis second and Downes in sixth.John Palfrey of Bury raced perfectly to hold on to the win in race 17.
Ollie Champness of Rougham rode well all day with a fine ninth in the Grand final.
The next meeting at Wattisfield is the Evening Motocross Championship on July 1, 6pm.
