Snetterton Circuit is gearing up for its biggest event of the season when it hosts the fifth round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship this weekend.
After a recent spell of unseasonal wet weather in East Anglia, an excellent weather forecast is in place for this weekend and the stars of the Superbike series.
Four-time champion Shane Byrne and Leon Haslam have emerged as the two frontrunners in the 2016 season so far, with the latter returning to the championship this year after a stint on the world stage.
Haslam has taken three wins in the first four rounds, and the ‘Pocket Rocket’ sampled the extended 300 Snetterton Circuit for the first time at the recent official test.
“The test was the first time I had ridden the 300 circuit layout and I am looking forward to the races,” he said.
“The number of corners has doubled since my last race there so that gives even more chances for overtakes and definitely makes it more exciting for the fans, especially with the improved spectator areas.
“My target for the weekend is a double win. We know we have to push really hard for every point and you can’t afford to give an inch in these races.”
Local contenders are also counting on some home support, with Cambridge’s Luke Mossey celebrating his first podium finish of the season last time out at Knockhill.
“After our first podium of the season at Knockhill I am really looking forward to Snetterton as it’s my home circuit,” he said.
“Two podiums is what I am aiming for to get my season back on track and we have lots of sponsors and fans coming to Snetterton, so I really hope to put on a good show.”
Fans can get closer to the stars of the championship with a free of charge pitwalk on Sunday’s main raceday, as well as access to an innovative ‘Victory Circle’ for the post-race celebrations.
Tickets for this weekend are available online from £27, with free entry for under-13s.
