Colin Oates will get his quest for an Olympic judo medal under way at the Carioca Arena in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday afternoon (2pm).

Aged 33, the North Lopham-raised star conceded to the Express last month that this is likely to be his last appearance at the Games, having reached the quarter-finals in his -66kg category at London 2012.

History is not in Oates’ favour, though, with no British male judoka having claimed an Olympic medal since Ray Stevens 24 years ago.

However, he has shown good form in international competition of late, having won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
