Harleston Junior Angling Club opened their new season with the first match of the Junior Club Championship, a six match competition held at the Weybread complex.
After a quick start anglers slowly lost touch with the feeding fish leaving a battle between the two end pegs for the honours with Jack Farrow and last years series runner up Maisy Riches both matching each other fish for fish right until the final whistle.
After three hours fishing Farrow had landed 15 good sized carp and was first to weigh registering a new personal best total of 34lb 12oz.
It was then eight year-old Riches’ turn to weigh in, again landing a similar amount of fish but as it turned out of a much better average size with her bag thumping the scales round to a whopping 57lb 4oz to give her an early lead in the table.
Katie Riches, last year’s champion finished third with a similar amount of fish to the winner but again the average size was much smaller, finishing well short with a level 23lb.
