Harleston Magpies Hockey Club will be gunning for National Mixed Trophy glory at the Lee Valley Sports Centre tomorrow as they try and get their hands on silverware that has eluded them on two previous occasions.

Magpies have enjoyed an excellent season and go into the finals with their best chance since skipper Charlie Harrison led the team to a 5-0 triumph over Birmingham University in the final at in 2004 where goals from Iain Cumming, Emma Lee-Smith, Philip Cobbald and current England and Great Britain international Tim Whiteman (two) secured the trophy.

Harleston face Hampstead and Westminster in their semi-final clash on Saturday at 1.30pm where victory would see them face the winners of the other clash between Bedford and Horsham, in Sunday’s final showdown (4pm).

Defeat on Saturday would see them entered into a third place encounter where they could win bronze.
