Harleston Magpies 3

Chelmsford I 1

Harleston Magpies Ladies remain third in the league standings after overcoming Chelmsford 3-1 on Saturday.

The hosts applied plenty of pressure, but they had to wait until midway through the first half to score the first goal.

It came through Victoria Findlay, who managed to convert after those before her had failed to do so.

However, a slow start to the second half resulted in Magpies being pegged back by their alert visitors.

But rather than accept a draw, Magpies poured forward in search of the lead again, which came courtesy of a reverse-stick shot from Maria Andrews.

And the encounter was soon put out of Chelmsford’s reach by Lauren Barber’s penalty flick.

Tomorrow, Magpies travel to eighth-placed Southgate Ladies I (12.30pm).

n In Division 1N, a brace from Anna Tighe saw Harleston Magpies Ladies II record a 2-1 victory at Norwich Dragons II.

It was a bright start to proceedings by Magpies, who made the most of it when Tighe finished off a passing move that had seen the ball travel from front to back.

It was 2-0 soon after, with Tighe running through to double her tally for the afternoon following a through pass from Laura Tibbenham.

The hosting Dragons came into the contest before the break, but they were denied a route back into the contest by the stubborn Magpies defence.

Magpies had a host of opportunities to score a third goal after the restart, but they were unable to take any of them.

Dragons, meanwhile, did manage to pull a goal back eight minutes from time, but Magpies held out in the closing stages to halt the team’s three-match run without a victory.

Tomorrow, the second team travel to Cambridge University II, who have picked up just two victories all season (12pm).
