Harry Elton secured his first win for three seasons as the Middle Pit at Weybread staged the fourth round of the Harleston Junior Angling club’s Summer Series.
Practice made perfect for Elton since breaking his pole three weeks ago forced him to try another tactic, with the method feeder seeming the easiest and most obvious choice.
Each week his casting accuracy has improved and so has his weights as he promptly took an early lead netting two big carp in the first half an hour.
Katie Riches hit back mid- match, landing a big carp again using the method feeder with hair rigged banded pellet on the hook.
Elton netted a third to again open up a two fish lead only to see Katie Riches hit back, netting another to set a tense last hour.
However, neither could land any more fish to see Elton earn a welcome victory with a final haul weighing in at 20lb 5oz, ahead of Katie Riches with a total of 14lb 10oz gaining her valuable league points on her bid for a hat-trick of championship titles.
Third place went right to the wire with Jack Farrow losing a big fish with five minutes to go after struggling all night on the pole.
Maisy Riches then struck with her last cast to net a decent fish to pinch third place with a level 6lb leaving Farrow fourth with a mere 1lb 2oz of mainly small stuff.
In the league side things could not be tighter with two rounds to go with Farrow, Maisy and Katie Riches all level on 74 points and Elton a further five points behind.
With four matches fished, four different winners and two matches still to go the league is the tightest its been for many seasons.
