May proved a successful month for Diss Golf Club’s members and none more so than James Biggs who
enjoyed some double delight.

Playing in the Eastern Counties Cup, at Woodbridge Golf Club, a 36 hole competition, he carded rounds of 69 and 70 for a total of 139 winning the Scratch Salver by a clear three shots.

Then by pairing up with Chris Bartrum, Biggs also gained success in the Suffolk Amateur Foursomes Championships, held at Felixstowe.

This was a very close affair with the two Diss players being taken to the second extra hole; Bartrum sinking an impressive 15 foot putt to take the victory, and the Macleod Cup.

In the team competitions, the Diss Scratch Team, the defending champions of the Stenson Shield, were no match for Purdis Heath.

The Tolly Cobbold Side, for handicaps of 10 to 18 lost narrowly at Stowmarket but in the senior knockouts, the Parks and Beaumont Trophies both sides progressed to the next rounds.

The Parks Team, for golfers of up to 12 handicap, beat Haverhill 2 up and the Beaumont Team (13-24 handicaps) beat St Clements 6 up. They progress to the next round to play Flempton and Rushmere respectively.

n The 2015 annual Laurie Cup Golf Competition (ladies) was won by Dee Royds with a net score of 71. Runner-up (on count-back) with net 75 was Marianne Haines with Jenny Chamberlin in third place.

Elsewhere, Diss Ladies, made up of Jenny Chamberlin (captain for the day), Sarah Gotts, Helen Lawson, Steph and Val Mendham, recently played in the Suffolk Ladies County Golf Association Weston Trophy against Thorpness and claimed a 4-1 victory.
