Debenham Leisure Centre hosted the quarter-finals of the England Boxing Schoolboy Championships on Saturday evening.

Local interest came from Sudbury Amateur Boxing Club, who had Jack Wiffen and Jake Carrington both competing for a spot in the semi-finals.

The pair were up against fighters from Kent and ultimately fell short in their quest for a place in the last four.

St Mary’s Club’s Dion Eede got the better of 14-year-old Wiffen, who had made a positive start to the fight as he claimed the first round, only to be edged out in rounds two and three, and was subsequently defeated on a split decision.

Meanwhile, 13-year-old Carrington shook off the flu to take on Moses Mead of the Rumbles Boxing Academy, however, it seemed the illness had a negative impact on the youngster’s performance as he could not get his shots off and was defeated.
