Mendham’s darting ace Peter Wright hit four 100-plus finishes in a superb display to defeat Gary Anderson in the Premier League of Darts in Leeds last night.
The world number three averaged 109 in the 7-5 victory, which lifts him up to fourth in the table.
Two-time world champion Anderson struck first with the opening leg but Wright fired back. A pair of 116 finishes and a 121 out saw the man known as ‘Snakebite’ establish a 3-1 lead, and later took out a 120 combination to go 4-2 ahead.
A 14-darter from The Flying Scotsman, featuring two 180s, saw him hit back but even six perfect darts in leg eight were not enough as Wright fired in another 12-darter to regain his lead.
Anderson, who averaged more than 106, hit back with an 11-darter and a 110 checkout to force a deciding leg at 6-5, but Wright was first to a finish as double ten sealed his second victory of the season.
Wright told PDC.tv: “I’m pleased to get the win,
“I think I can play better, but it was a win.
“I was disappointed with how I played against Michael van Gerwen last week, and I’ve let players in with my mistakes but I’m learning and I didn’t let Gary back in.”
