Garboldisham 249-8 beat Fakenham 170
by 79 runs

Garboldisham’s first XI put a great team performance in to claim the scalp of last season’s champions Fakenham in their own backyard.

Garby lost the toss and were put in to bat and despite the loss of Jonny Wyatt’s early wicket for just one run, Kristian Williman and Henry Phoenix looked rock solid and they were 97-1 at drinks.

Williman was dismissed for 65 but Phoenix carried on the good work until he went for 59.

Captain Danny Cash pushed on and added in another 49 runs, and with handy contributions from Dan Constable (20) and Alex Hogg (17no) plus a cluster of wides, the firsts finished on a fairly healthy 249-8 after 50 overs.

In reply, Fakenham stalled as they were contained by good bowling with wickets from Dan Constable (4), Alex Hogg (3), Rob Fuller (2) and Gavin Barnes (1), and the hosts found themselves bowled out for 170 in the 45th over.

It was a very satisfying win and a great performance from the whole team.

n Garboldisham II (266-7) made it four wins from four matches to top Division Four after a 163-run home win against Martham.

James Worby was the standout contributor with the bat, hitting 114, while Dan Philpot starred with the ball (5-33).

n Garboldisham III had a close run game at home to Heacham but a century from Jack Stevenson (102) got them up to 245-9 and they had their opponents bowled out for 222 in the 42nd over for a 23-run victory that leaves them second in the LVL 2 West League.

n LVL 4SW leaders Garboldisham IV (209-8) made it four wins out of four for the club with their 37-run victory at Mellis.

n Sunday is the club’s T20 Day with three teams in action in Twenty/20 format games against each other.

The first match begins at 11am and the teams competing this year are: Scole FC, Pascal Walker’s XI and Ben Asker’s XI. The bar will be open all day and the club are also having a barbecue.
