Mark Reeve conceded his disappointment at losing striker Matt Dixon as the financial ramifications of relegation continue to hamper Diss Town.
With preparations under way at Brewers Green Lane for an attempted assault on an immediate return to the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, the manager has been dealt a blow with the news that 34-year-old Dixon has opted to join First Division rivals Stowmarket Town this week.
The moves comes as the second major setback to Reeves’ pre-season preparation after also losing captain Jacob Brown, who decided to sign for Premier Division Mildenhall Town last month.
However, despite his disappointment, the manager conceded he was powerless to stop his more established players leaving with the club forced to adjust after relegation.
“I would have loved to have kept Matt at the club because he scores goals,” he said.
“I think signing for Stowmarket suits him with where he lives and it is also suggests they were able to offer him a better deal financially.
“I’m not suggesting that is the major reason but we have had to make cut backs following relegation and have had to adjust accordingly.
“That is the problem with being relegated, you have to accept that your premium players are likely to move on.
“It was the same with Jacob, who we knew would have a lot of offers from elsewhere because of the calibre of player that he was.
“Matt has scored goals throughout his career and will always do so, so it was not surprising to see other clubs interested in him as well, unfortunately.”
Reeve also revealed the club were also set to confirm a host of reinforcement this week.
“I need someone to play a similar role as Jacob did as well as adding some defensive cover,” he added.
“We still have six weeks to go which is plenty of time so I’m not panicking just yet.”
