Diss Town rediscovered their clinical touch as they romped to a comprehensive 4-0 victory away at Downham Town on Saturday.

The Tangerines took the lead after 13 minutes when Jo Manning moved onto a loose ball on the edge of the area and fired a shot through a crowd of players.

Despite Diss’ dominance in the early stages, Downham Town were gifted the chance to level in the 24th minute as Chris Gibbons’ mistimed challenge in the area resulted in a penalty being awarded.

However, Matt Powley read Pat Yates’ intentions and dived full length to turn the ball around the left upright.

Three minutes later the Tangerines got a penalty decision of their own, when a clumsy tackle brought down Jamie George just inside the Town area. Jason Armes made no mistake from the spot and sent Young the wrong way.

The visitors added a third just three minutes later as Danny Self reacted quickly to divert Callum Olpin’s driven cross past Young.

And refusing to rest on their laurels, Diss struck a fourth before half-time as Manning added his second of the game, dispatching a fine strike from outside the box that arrowed into the top right-hand corner of the Downham net.

Further chances followed after the interval with both Sam Page and Olpin going close for Diss, while at the other end Powley was called into action to make two smart saves as the visitors held out for a comfortable win.

Diss Town: Powley, Hood, Gibbons, Gilding (Page 49), Barrett, Armes (Brown 44), Self, Manning, Olpin, George, Downes.

n Diss extended their unbeaten run to six matches on Tuesday night with a 1-1 draw against Stowmarket Town.
