Have your say

Has the time come for Mick McCarthy to shake up our back five?

It was almost certainly our defensive discipline in the last campaign, conceding just 54 goals in 46 league games, along with the red-hot form of Daryl Murphy, which led us to a sixth place finish in the Championship.

We have so far shipped 25 goals — that’s one more than bottom-club Bolton, and MK Dons, who occupy the final relegation spot

While only Fulham (30) and Hull (27) have scored more than us this season (25), it is the goals against column which is becoming an increasing concern.

On the occasions I have been asked to do this column, I am very hesitant to criticise. No player ever goes out to do badly. While I admire the passion of our fist-pumping skipper Luke Chambers, he at times looks exposed against pacy wingers, while Jonas Knudsen has been hot and cold. It could be time to bring back the steady, if not spectacular Jonathan Parr, into one of those slots.

And although there is not much in it, Bartosz Białkowski would be my man between the sticks.

It was mixed feeling of another decent performance but our defensive fragility being capitalised on again after our draw with Wolves on Saturday. The goals from the visitors were preventable. However, seven points from three matches represents a decent return.

We are back under the scrutiny of the Sky Sports cameras on Saturday with a trip to Charlton (12.30pm). Last year’s trek was one that will stick long in the memory after Noel Hunt struck deep, deep into injury time to send 2,000 Ipswich fans delirious. The same again please, lads!
