THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE
Dereham Town Reserves 1
Diss Town 2
Shaun Hunsdon has described his first competitive outing in Diss Town colours as the ‘perfect debut’ after he netted both goals in a 2-1 win away at Dereham Town Reserves on Wednesday evening.
The Tangerines found themselves up against a number of Dereham’s senior players, who currently ply their trade in the Ryman League Division One North.
And it seemed that the extra quality would shine through when Max Melanson broke the deadlock for the hosts in the 14th minute at Aldiss Park.
However, summer signing Hunsdon hit back with two goals before the break, securing all three points in the process.
“It was not a bad start at all. We were up against a strong side with some first-team influence,” he said.
“After they scored we got on top and managed the game well.
“On a personal level the first goal takes the pressure off and freed me up a little bit.
“It was the perfect debut and hopefully I can build on it over the coming weeks and months.”
In switching to Brewers Green Lane, Hundson has stepped down a division from Thetford Town.
Playing out wide, he was the Brecklanders’ leading marksman last term with 15 goals to his name from 42 appearances.
Yet, with the promise of a more central attacking role, coupled with the ambition levels at Diss, Hunsdon does not feel that he has taken a backwards step.
“There is a lot of ambition at Diss. From speaking to Ross (Potter, manager), they want to get promoted,” he added.
“If we achieve that this season, which is possible, then there will be no difference between us and Thetford.
“It is a good set-up at Diss and one that provides me with the chance to play up top.
“I want to be the main man and that was not to be at Thetford. We parted on good terms, though.
“When you play in your natural position, you play off instinct and it flows. Out wide you have to think more and perhaps try things that do not come off.”
n On Saturday, Diss host Haverhill Borough (3pm).
Then, on Tuesday night, Downham Town will be the visitors (7.45pm).
