FIRST DIVISION
Saffron Walden Town 1 Debenham LC 0
Debenham LC may still be searching for their first win since mid-September, but they put in an improved display at Saffron Walden Town.
The high-flying Bloods struck late on through Louis Harper to seal all three points and end the Hornets’ stubborn resistance.
Debenham nearly opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Tom Hardwick sent in one of his trademark long throws to the Saffron Walden six-yard box where David Lampshire headed the ball on towards goal, but Jason Harvey palmed it away.
Saffron Walden responded with Darren Bicknell heading against the post, but Debenham had their best chance to score when Lampshire’s under-hit lob dropped into the goalkeeper’s arms.
Debenham goalkeeper Derren Burn made three good saves in quick succession just before the hour-mark as he blocked two shots at goal then dived to smother the loose ball as attackers waited to pounce
The clock was counting down to 83 minutes when yet another corner for Saffron Walden was taken from the left.
This time it seemed to catch Burn out in the centre of his goal as the ball sailed over to the far post where Harper was standing unmarked to knock the ball into the net and break Debenham’s hearts after all of the hard work they had put in.
