THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE

FIRST DIVISION

Fakenham Town 1
Debenham LC 2

Debenham LC secured a much-needed hard-fought victory away at Fakenham Town to help halt an alrming run of poor form.

Dale Vince’s charges had endured a run of back-to-back defeats ahead of the trip to Town, shipping 11 goals in the process, following up a 6-1 defeat away at Swaffham Town with elimination from the Red Insure Cup, in a 5-1 second round loss to Kirkley and Pakefield.

However, goals from David Lampshire and Ben Green, in between James Tricks’ equaliser, secured the Hornets all three points to get their stuttering campaign back on track.

The hosts should have opened the scoring after just three minutes when Kyle Plumber raced through before rounding Darren Burn, but with the goal at his mercy the striker could only hit the side netting.

And they were made to rue that miss in the 34th minute when Lampshire rose highest to head home Lewis Kemp’s teasing cross. However, that lead would not last long as Tricks rifled a low shot beyond Burns to draw the sides level.

A tentative second half ensued, until with 83 minutes on the clock and the match looking destined for a draw, Green picked up the ball a full 35 yards out before unleashing an unstoppable drive to snatch victory in style.
