Fergie blasts rival boss over Boyd calls

Angry Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has launched a scathing attack on Crystal Palace chief Ian Holloway after accusing him of tapping up George Boyd.
Ferguson claims Holloway has been ‘constantly’ making phone calls to Boyd in the hope of persuading him to join the Championship promotion-chasers when the loan window opens tomorrow (February 8).
Palace did have a bid to sign Boyd on a permanent deal accepted last week but the player preferred a move to Nottingham Forest which infamously collapsed just before the transfer window closed due to a failed eye test.
Ferguson said: “The one thing that has really annoyed me this week is that the Crystal Palace manager has been constantly ringing George.
“I don’t think it is right and I’m not having it. He should not be speaking to one of my players.
“It was clearly different when everyone was chasing his player, Wilfried Zaha. He is the first person to start moaning about it then.
“It’s simple, go through the right channels and either sign him or don’t.
“He hasn’t had the courtesy to ring me so I’m not going to have the courtesy to ring him.
“I’ll speak to the chairman and see where we take the matter.
“Even though there is a very good chance George will be playing for another club next week, he is currently a Peterborough player.
“All we ask is that interested clubs do it the right way and make a bid as Forest did and Palace initially did.
“As long as we agree a deal we will give the other club permission to speak to the player.”
Ferguson admits it is possible that Boyd could even leave on loan tomorrow with ‘two-or-three interested parties’ tracking him but Palace chairman Steve Parish has claimed his club is not one of them.
He also branded Ferguson’s claims as ‘laughable’.
Parish said: “I’ve got no axe to grind with Darren Ferguson but I think he’s got his facts wrong.
“After George turned us down in favour of Forest, Ian gave him a call to wish him luck and said no hard feelings.
“It was all part of the same permission to talk to him.
“We don’t want him on loan. Maybe if he is a free agent in the summer. I asked Ian two weeks ago if we were still interested and he said ‘no’ as he had got too many loans.
“It is absolutely rubbish. Somewhere along the line, he (Ferguson) has got the wrong end of the stick.”
