Diss Town 3

Ten-men Diss Town concluded their campaign by coming from behind to overcome Cornard United and seal a seventh-place finish.

After a period of little activity, Cornard took a 26th minute lead as Romario Dunne controlled a cross from the right before spinning and firing into the far corner from the angle of the six yard box.

The Tangerines task was made harder just moments later as midfielder Danny Self was shown a straight red card reducing Diss to 10 men.

However, despite the setback Diss started the second-half in the asendency and within a minute of the restart Callum Olpin was tripped a yard inside the penalty area by Dave Downing.

Jamie George took responsibility and sent the resulting penalty hard and low into the corner of the net to draw the visitors level.

Jason Armes then had a free kick from 24 yards pushed away as it seemed only a matter of time before the Tangerines would take the lead.

They did so with 20 minutes to play. Olpin ran into the area and released the impressive Sam Wenham on the left to pull the ball back from near the goal-line, Olpin had time to control the ball and steer his low shot into the far corner from near the angle of the six yard area.

The momentum continued with the visitors who added a third in the 78th minute.

Olpin played the ball out to Sam Page on the right who in turn ran into the penalty area and drove the ball through the diving goalkeeper from an acute angle to have the honour of scoring the 83rd and final Tangerine goal of the season.

There was still time for further controversy.

Four minutes into added time dissent from United’s Robinson, who had twice received lengthy lectures after further fouls, and Shaun Malarkey saw the previously uncautioned Malarkey shown a yellow and red card.

Protests from the home team were waved away as Diss played out the final moments to claim all three points.
