Derby defeat for Harleston at hands of Long Stratton
DERBY DAY: Long Stratton (red) beat Harleston 3-0 with goals from John King, Thomas Wright and Kevin Willimot
ANGLIAN COMBINATION
DIVISION ONE
Harleston Town 0
Long Stratton 3
Harleston Town’s four-match winning streak came to an abrupt end with a below-par display against local rivals Long Stratton on Saturday.
The impressive visitors took the game to the subdued hosts, taking the lead 20 minutes in when Town failed to clear their lines.
Falling behind seemed to lift Town and for the remainder of the half, they dominated possession, but struggled to break down Stratton.
Fionn Goodwin-Wright missed from close range after good work from Jack Weatherley, and Jake Imrie saw a header well saved as it remained 1-0 to Stratton at the break.
Harleston felt they were still very much in the game leading into the second half, but they fell two behind shortly after the interval when a free-kick from distance was uncharacteristically misjudged by David Shannon in the Town goal and somehow ended up in the net.
Tom Ramsay, Andrew Morris and Paul Bliss all missed the chance to fire Harleston back into the game and Stratton completed the scoring with 10 minutes remaining.
n Harleston Town Reserves ran out 5-3 winners away at Thorpe Village Reserves thanks to another four-goal haul from leading marksman Connor Girling. James Rogers was also on the scoresheet.
