Diss Cricket Club have signed South African Nicholas Michaelides as their overseas player for the 2016 season.
The right-handed top order batsman will join up with the Norfolk Cricket Alliance Premier League-outfit later this month ahead of their season opener against Brooke on April 30.
The 25-year-old, who has been playing in the Gauteng Premier League with Wanderers, can also bowl medium/fast and is set to arrive in the country in two weeks time.
Diss start their pre-season preparations with a trip to Topcroft on Sunday, before visiting local rivals Old Buckenham the following weekend on April 17.
Michaelides will get his first chance to impress the Diss faithful when Acle visit Rectory Meadow for the club’s final pre-season friendly on April 23.
Reflecting on the signing, newly-appointedclub chairman Douglas Young has high hopes for Michaelides.
“Nick comes to us on the back of a very high recommendation and we are confident he can add talent to our squad,” he said.
“He is predominantly a top order batsman and so we are hoping he can add some big scores for us early on in matches.
“He also has his coaching qualifications and so we are keen for him to get involved off the field and also help with the youngsters at the club.”
