Cricket: Guests boost Garboldisham

IT was hands across the border, as Stradbroke girls welcomed visitors north and south for their annual three team girls tournament.

An under-strength Garboldisham side made good use of their guest players, racking up 307 for 1 against Stradbroke.

In reply, Tori Coleman and Florence Vane both hit lustily. Although last pair Ellie Johnson and Kate Thompson tried, they came up 19 runs short.

With one win under their belts, Garboldisham caught Copdock cold in the field.

Skipper Primrose Rushen starred with bat and ball but, Copdock never quite recovered, and Garboldisham were the inaugural winners of the trophy.

Anyone who thought that Stradbroke against Copdock would be a dead rubber was well wide of the mark, particularly as Flo Wilkinson hit 23, including the day's only six, but were stopped in their tracks by three direct hits for run outs by Francesca Auchterlonie, Vane, and Coleman.

Needing a net score of 265, keeping wickets intact was a priority, and once Tilly Heydon got Stradbroke ahead of the game, Johnson and Thompson sealed the victory.
