Cricket: Black day for Stradbroke
Suffolk Premier Cup
Stradbroke 50
Earl Stonham 51-2
AN ABJECT performance saw a second successive cup exit at the hands of Earl Stonham, once more the toss being crucial.
Bounce is a rare commodity on a Stradbroke pitch, but after thunderstorms and hot sun, the visitors opening bowler Charlie Tunstall lapped up conditions, turning in the quickest spell even his team-mates had seen for some time.
Ady Green stood firm for 12 overs until Tunstall realised that bowling full was the answer. He took 4 for 16, with just five runs off the bat.
Nobody except Wides reached double figures, there were nine bowled and one lbw, as the hosts limped to 50 all out.
Wrinch ensured an early finish with a brisk 21, while the only bright spot for Stradbroke were two catches for a delighted Adam Smith on his 1st XI debut.
North Suffolk Academy League
Saxmundham beat Stradbroke by eight wickets.
SAXMUNDHAM completed a Black Saturday for Stradbroke, hustling out their Academy XI for just 68.
Only youngsters Tom Wright (19) and Kieran Allum (16) reached double figures, as Alex Palmer and Arron Fairweather shared six wickets.
Realising the game was up, Stradbroke used four bowlers, the oldest of which is 16 years old.
Each acquitted themselves well, but could not dislodge Angus Ferguson who hit 36 not out, as Saxmundham cruised home.
