Angling: Tough but Ward wins
WITH the new season of matches now in full swing, it was Eye ponds new side which saw the battle last Tuesday.
Paul Ward was victorious on a day when the fish did not really want to feed. Taking small fish, Ward made slow progress and ended the day with 5lb 10.
Second on the day went to Barry Day who, like Ward could only find the smaller fish in his peg and ended with 5lb 1. Third went to Colin Lea with 4lb 8.
The old side at Eye held the only match of the weekend on Saturday, June 13. Chris Thorndyke fished the four pit for his win. With extra water being in the pit Chris benefited with the extra depth and colour in the water.
A steady run of fish kept coming to the net and Chris finally ended the match with 12lb 15. Karl Hales, just like the weekend before, began the match slowly but after regular feeding with maggots Hales caught shallow.
Despite losing a carp and a nice rudd, Hales ended the day with 8lb 8. Third on the day went to Simon Thompson with 7lb 6.
n EIGHT members travelled to West Mersea on Saturday to fish for Tope and Thornback Rays.
Best fish of the day was a 43lb Tope, while the new club record went to Keith Carter from Hoxne.
The runner-up was Colin Haddock with another club record fish in the form of a 15lb 8oz Thornback ray.
Other members competing were: Pip Mills (Diss), David Newcombe (Tibenham) Charlie Flatman (Burgate), Michael Thorndyke (Eye), Jon Knight (Scole) and Paul Stow (Scole).
