London League Two North, Civil Service 20 Diss 28: Tim Groom scored a hat-trick of tries as Diss continued their 100 per cent start to life in London Two North.
They also became the first Norfolk start to beat Civil Service.

Despite starting well, Diss found themselves behind after ten minutes, when winger Tom Sumner scored an unconverted try in the corner.

The Blues started to gain advantage up front, and this was confirmed in the 30th minute when Diss were awarded a five-metre penalty after Civil Service were offside. From the line-out the pack demonstrated their power when prop Tim Groom, ably assisted by second row Ali Butler, scored an unconverted try near the corner.

One minute later Civil Service took the lead again after converting a penalty awarded when Diss were offside.

Just before the half ended, the Blues regained the lead. Prop Matt Richards pounced on a home mistake and gained possession, before passing the ball down the backs line. When the ball reached winger Andy Thorpe, he was strong enough to beat his opposite number and scored to the left of the posts. Chris Beaird converted.

The visitors found their task even harder in the second half when the referee adjudged Beaird to have come in from the side and issued him with a yellow card. The resulting penalty was missed by Civil Service, but they soon took advantage of their superior numbers and scored a converted try to take a three-point lead.

When Diss were restored to full strength, they once again established dominance up front. The Blues pack powered across the line for Groom to score his second try of the afternoon.

Although this was not converted, Diss had regained the lead and Groom's third try was not far away.

After securing good possession, the pack crossed the line, and looked to be held up, but the ball was skilfully recycled to Groom who completed his hat-trick of tries by scoring near the corner. The conversion was missed.

Five minutes before the end, Diss increased their lead further when Beaird confidently converted a penalty, awarded after Civil Service were offside.

But the home side were not going to give up easily, and scored an unconverted try to cut the deficit.

Diss attacked straight from the kick-off, and were awarded a penalty in front off the posts after a Civil Service player went off his feet. Beaird converted, and shortly after the final whistle was blown.
