An intense evening of action saw Le Diss Sportif prove victorious in the first meeting of Diss Waveney Petanque Club's three teams.
The inaugural Chairman's Challenge Cup last Thursday saw 24 games crammed into a little over two hours of non-stop action as Diss Vikings, Diss Duval and Sportif went head-to-head to see which was the club's top team.

Sportif made a lighting start with seven wins from eight games in the opening two rounds to stamp their authority on the contest.

Vikings came out top in the third round with Duval evening things up with victory in the final round.

Sportif ended the evening with 22 points, only being beaten four times in their 16 games, with Vikings pipping Duval to second place on game points difference after they tied on 13 points.

Sportif's John Barsby and Steven Penny were the top pair, winning three and drawing one of their four games, ahead of teammates Liz Rudling and Jan Barsby, who lost just one of their four.

Tony Bigley and Ken Roberts were the Vikings' top duo, with Chris and Jackie Johnson topping Duval's charts.

Sportif captain Dave Smith collected the cup from club chairman Cyril Bromley.
