THE British Riding Clubs Area 14 Junior Show Jumping Qualifier was held at Tendring Hundred Riding Club near Colchester.
In the novice section there were 15 teams and the competition went well into the afternoon.
One of the three Carleton Rode Riding Club teams came sixth, which they were delighted with having fielded teams of true novice combinations.
Indeed, two of the best performances came from young horses from Brian and Wendy King's Yard at Fersfield – Mosstown Rossi, owned and ridden by Harriet Johnson from Mellis and Mosstown Rockstar, owned by Brian and Wendy, ridden by Georgie Wood from Old Buckenham.
This was "Rocky's" first big party and it looks like he's going to be a real performer.
Another Carleton Rode rider, Lindsey Fraser, also from Old Buckenham, came second individually riding her own Mango Madam. They have also qualified for the finals in Lincoln. Lindsey was very happy, having just finished her GCSEs.
It was well into the afternoon when the Open competition started and while there were only six teams and four individual riders at this level this was a very impressive competition.
For the second year running, the CarletonRode team won the National Qualifier and have booked their ticket to Lincoln in September. The team comprised of Georgie Wood on the Parker Family's Diamond Cluster, Ben Westgate on Marsh Hoppa, Verity Becker on Corndu Savistanos and Casey Parker on The Good Life II.
This was a particularly impressive performance from Casey and Humphrey, who is only five and had never jumped quite such a big and technical course. They finished in fourth place individually.
Carleton Club Chairman Sara Campbell was delighted with the win from a very loyal group of riders and really appreciated the effort made by all team members and parents who made the trip on Sunday.
The teams also benefited on the day from the assistance of Ali Pearson of Thetford Chase Pony Club, who share many members with Carleton Rode. It seems that regular training from Portia Howard and John Jacks is paying-off along with the facilities provided by Overa Farm where the club is based.
Carleton Rode team members not already mentioned were: Tara Watt, Emma Girling, Ashleigh Garrett, Abby Richards, Kim Pearson, Georgina Thorley and Jamila Bryan who all contributed to a lovely day.
