Diss Cricket Club captain Dave Tooke is confident his young side can continue their impressive start to the season by cementing a Carter Cup semi-final berth this weekend.
On Sunday, the in-form Rectory Meadow-based outfit travel to Norwich and Coltishall Wanderers for an eagerly anticipated county cup quarter-final, aiming to book their spot in the last four for the second successive campaign.

"It is a big game and we are looking forward to the challenge," said Tooke.

"It's a competition we want to go far in and we hope to do just that this season."

On paper, it is a tie that Diss should win after enjoying a fine start to life back in the Norfolk Cricket Alliance Premier League.

"After achieving promotion last year, the south Norfolk side have won four of their seven league outings so far and currently occupy third spot in the table. Norwich and Coltishall themselves have began well and are second in the table – albeit a league below in Division One.

Tooke, 24, said: "I have been very pleased with our start to the season.

"We will not get carried away with our form though because there is still a long way to go.

"We still have two tough fixtures to come against Downham, who are always the outstanding team in this division and so survival is still the priority for us."

A host of players have played instrumental roles in the club's excellent run, including Tooke's brother Rob, all rounder Chris Cooper, bowler Karl Gooderham and batsman Henry Rush – all of which have come through the ranks at the club.

Tooke, who has skippered the side for the last three terms, said:"We do not have an overseas player at the club which means our own players have to work that much harder and they have done that well."

If other results go their way, Diss could move up to second spot in the table tomorrow with victory at struggling Cromer.

However, the seasiders are expected to give their visitors a tougher test after signing a West Indies first class batsman this week.

Tooke said: "It will be tougher now than we first thought it might be, but I am still fairly confident we can go there and get the win."
