Suffolk Premier League, Yoxford 219-5 Stradbroke 217-8: There is something very British about Stradbroke's ability for heroic failure.
No such thought enters the head of an Australian, as Yoxford skipper Damien Cialini set about the bowling on an ugly but true pitch.
Alan Barker chipped away two wickets at the other end, before Chris Bennet(38) offered some substantial support.
The pair added 100 before Cialini was bowled by Tim Courridge for 83, with the only shooter of the day.
Courridge was getting some turn from a drying surface, and Stradbroke hopes were raised. He also dismissed Julian Emeny for a robust 35, leaving the Lincoln brothers to add 24 in the last 3 overs, and a target of 220.
This looked highly unlikely with Strad's reply soon down to 23-3, against a hostile attack of Emeny and Ian Price.
Stuart Taylor and Courridge then set about building some bridges, putting on 66 in 16 overs, before Courridge went for 37.
Simon Higgins(20) and a quickfire 16 from Josh Franklin-Mann upped the rate, but when they went, along with Taylor for a stoic 42, hopes faded at 153-8.
Scott Turner did not read the script and came out all guns blazing.
He found a willing ally in James Ling and such was their progress that, for the second time in a week, they required six off the last ball to win.
It was just too much. Yoxford won by two runs, with Turner(44) and Ling(23) adding 64 for the ninth wicket, just shy of a club record.
n A free Sunday meant that Stradbroke were able to arrange a charity day, with £570 raised for the Sir Ian Botham Leukaemia Research Fund.
A good crowd turned up to first watch a girls match, where the visitors Copdock beat Stradbroke by six runs. This was followed by the Stradbroke fathers and sons locking horns, in a Dads v Lads match.
Sam Johnson(40) and Kieran Allum(22) give the Lads a good start, which was promptly arrested by Stuart Taylor (5-2),who restricted them to 137-9. Kevin Johnson(29) showed some of his son's strokeplay, before Liam Joe Smith wrapped things up with a hat-trick. Taylor made 41 as the Dads fell 26 runs short.
Finally, the success of Stradbroke's youth section was amplified as XI graduates from it outclassed their elders. They made 134-7 , with Martin Cuthbert making 46.
The 'Present' XI could not master the young bowling attack, highlighted by Owen Morgan (2-3).
