Hunts County Bats League, Division Two, Mellis 134-3 Withersfield 133: Mellis played their first game at their new ground on the Thornham Estate and claimed a convincing victory.
Withersfield chose to bat and started at a good rate with 52 on the board off ten overs.

The early introduction of leg-spinner David Williamson proved a wise move when he bowled danger man Goldsmith (34) round his legs.

A further four wickets then fell for the addition of only 12 runs.

Despite stubborn resistance from the Withersfield lower order, wickets were taken at regular intervals and they were dismissed for 133 with five overs remaining.

Williamson had the best figures with 3-25 and Keith Greenwood took 3-33, both off ten overs and Mellis appeared to be in with a good chance of win against a depleted Withersfield team.

The Mellis reply though did not get off to a good start with a wicket falling at 17.

But Chris Farrant and Tim Courridge, with a stand of 82, put Mellis in control and although Courridge (26) was bowled, Farrant showed his true form at last with an unbeaten 86 and a victory for Mellis, with 14 overs to spare.
