Hunts County Bats Suffolk Cricket League.
Mellis enjoyed mixed fortunes at Brockley.

The home side batted but with Keith Greenwood and Tim Courridge both taking three wickets they restricted Brockley to 71 for 7.

However, an eighth wicket stand of 59 ensured that at the end of their 40th over, Brockley had reached 133 for 9.

The Mellis reply was a disaster with the batsmen having little answer to the spin of J.Reed who took six for 13 as Mellis were dismissed for a disappointing 54. Only Chris Farrant, 16, reached double figures.

A better performance was required at Tuddenham on Sunday. Again the toss was lost and Tuddenham batted.

Although Keith Greenwood again bowled well and deserved his two wickets, the batsmen were generally in control and at 130 for 4 in the 26th over, a score of over 200 appeared likely.

The introduction of Tim Courridge (5 for 35) and David Williamson (3 for 16) however, changed the game and with both finding some turn, the last six wickets fell for only 31 runs in eight overs.

The Mellis reply suffered an early setback but with all the batsmen playing attacking shots a brisk run rate was maintained.

Doug Spence top scored with 43, Darren Stringer, Chris Farrant and Tim Courridge all fell in their 20s when seemingly well set.

However, Mellis didn't look like losing and when Adam Williamson, undefeated on 29, hit the winning runs, Mellis had won comfortably by four wickets with nine overs still remaining.

For the first time Mellis were able to field two full teams on the same day and entertained an Eye side in a friendly at Thornham on Sunday.

In an enjoyable game, Eye batted first and totalled 166 in their 40 overs.

Mellis, rotating the bowlers, gave everyone at least three overs. Adrian Scarratt and Ed Ling claimed two wickets each and had the most success.

In reply, Mellis lost wickets steadily and despite a good innings from Bob Caddy with an aggressive 46, they found themselves 88 for 7.

Dan Fowler and Marcus Green weren't in the mood to surrender and made sure a reasonable total was achieved, Green making 14 and when Mellis were all out 13 runs short of the target, Fowler was left stranded on 46.
