Youths tackle 1970s classic

Diss siblings Callum and Maddison Bicknell will be starring in Norfolk Youth Music Theatre's production of Picnic At Hanging Rock at The Maddermarket in Norwich this week.

The youth theatre's production is based on the novel by Joan Lindsay, later turned into the famous 1970s Peter Weir film, concerning the mysterious disappearance of three schoolgirls and a teacher ata picnic at a local beauty spot in Australia on St Valentine's Day 1900 – only one returns and no sign of the others are ever found.

Callum, 14, plays the kind-hearted but inexperienced Pc Jim Bumpher who attempts to unravel the mystery. This is Callum's ninth show with the company, including the lead role in the Little Shop of Horrors at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer.

His sister Maddison, 10, plays one of the 'watchers' who comment on the action under the guidance of the mysterious Shaman

Picnic At Hanging Rock is performed at The Maddermarket from Wednesday until next Saturday, 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on November 1.

Tickets are 10 (concessions 8), family tickets are 30.
