An inspirational mother-of-three who lost eight stone in just 14 months is hoping to pass on her knowledge to help others shed the pounds.

Sharon Long, 47, of Winfarthing, said a photo of her taken while on holiday in Lowestoft in 2010 was the “last straw”.

Mrs Long dropped from a dress size 24 to an 8/10, and has begun her own workshops in nutrition, healthy eating and fitness at Diss-based Heywoods Sports and Leisure Club.

She said she had always been big and had tried diets and slimming groups, but despite losing weight on occasions, she had struggled to keep it off.

Travelling as far as Norwich and Thetford to work out and not be recognised, Mrs Long, who paid to attend courses to be taught about food, said it was just as much about education as it was hard graft.

Mrs Long, who runs her own business looking after the terminally ill, told the Diss Express: “I had been on this vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting for so long, to the point where I started to feel that I was putting my health really at risk.

“Sometimes you have to hit rock-bottom until you really think ‘I have got to change’.

“I had done lots of these slimming groups, and I’m not saying they don’t work, but for me, they didn’t teach me enough about why I would chose certain foods, why I would lose weight and gain it all back on. I didn’t learn enough about how food affects you.

“It’s not a diet, it’s a healthy lifestyle and my life has completely changed. It was a miserable existence before.

“It really can be done. It is not about restriction, it is not about no having the things you like, it is about learning how to incorporate them into your everyday life.”
