Norfolk Trading Standards are warning residents to be on guard after reports of cold calling incidents in the Diss and Thetford areas.
In one incident, the resident was cold called at their property by a man claiming to be offering ‘free boilers’.
The cold caller then attempted to question the resident about financial information to ‘see if they were eligible’.
When the resident refused to give information, the cold caller tried to persuade them to sign a form to ‘check if they qualify’.
In the second incident, the resident received a telephone cold call about ‘free boilers’ and agreed to a home visit. When the male visited the resident, a range of personal and financial details was again requested.
Trading Standards always advises to be very wary of claims made during a cold call and never agree to a service or further visits if approached in this manner.
