Village signs up for eagerly-awaited replacement

Two years after vandals robbed Old Buckenham of its village sign, a new one is back in place.

A group of villagers gathered together on Old Buckenham Green on Saturday to witness the unveiling of a new sign.

The original carved wooden sign was damaged beyond repair but the parish council has had a facsimile replacement made by Thurton Foundry.

The unveiling ceremony was undertaken by Jean Wade, who had instigated the provision of a village sign when she was president of Old Buckenham Women’s Institute in 1979, and present president Susan Hunter.

The main cost of providing the sign was covered by the parish council’s insurance but about 400 had to be spent on the re-installation.

Thanks were made for the work of members of the parish council and John Askew.
