Vandalism puts cricket club's future in doubt
The future of Diss Cricket Club could be put in doubt if vandalism and theft continue at their Rectory Meadow home.
One of the practice nets was cut away and stolen between 8pm on August 21 and 9am on August 23 and club vice-chairman Mike Tooke said: "It's just another example of the vandalism we have to put up with.
"It appears to have been stolen to order, as it's been cut down and removed from each post, rather than just hacked at.
Mr Tooke is fearful of the knock-on effects.
"The cost to the club of all these acts is adding up," he said. "The club could eventually fold if so much aggravation is placed on the members and no-one would want to see that."
Controversial plans to install a 6ft high fence around the ground to prevent vandalism have been agreed in principle by Diss Town Council and Mr Tooke said: "Things keep needing to be repaired due to all the vandalism, so what else can we do?"
Mr Tooke has also become increasingly frustrated at the amount of dogs fouling on the pitch, a situation he said has got worse since the fence plans were revealed.
