A garage fire in Debenham has been brought under control by fire crews from across the region.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service were called with reports of a fire at Harris Court at about 2.25pm.

Appliances from Debenham, Eye, Stowmarket, Stradbroke, Needham Market, Princes Street, Ipswich, and a support pump from Woodbridge, were at the scene.

It was brought under control just before 4pm.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “This is a 1,000 litre oil tank and a single garage which are heavily involved in fire.

“Crews are using one hosereel, one covering jet and two breathing apparatus sets at the present time.”

Three bungalows and a house have sustained heat and smoke damage, while the oil tank has been destroyed.

Police are reported to have been called to safety up safety provisions at the scene, while UK Power Networks have also been contacted.

An ambulance has not been required.
