Unanimous 'no' for windfarm

Hempnall Parish Council has recommended for refusal plans to build a seven turbine windfarm in the village.

The unanimous decision was made at the parish council's meeting on Wednesday, on the grounds of visual intrusion, noise and cumulative effect.

"We feel it would blight our beautiful countryside," said parish chairman Geoff Moulton.

"We were also worried about the cumulative effect, when you look at the number of wind farm applications on the table at the moment."

The recommendation will be taken into account when South Norfolk Council determines the application.

The decision comes after South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon said the windfarm would be an "alien presence" on the countryside at a meeting of the Stop Hempnall's Onshore Wind Turbines (SHOWT) group last Friday night.

South Norfolk councillor for Hempnall, Michael Windridge, is also against the proposal and added: "I am all in favour of renewable energy schemes but Enertrag couldn't have selected a more unsuitable location."

The plans for the development on land at Bussey's Loke were submitted by Enertrag last month.
