A telecoms provider which launched in north Suffolk earlier this year has received a substantial vote of confidence after scooping a ‘best newcomer’ award at a regional business awards ceremony.
Vanguard Communications, an independent company based in Rectory Hill, Rickinghall, won the accolade for Best New Start-up at the Bury Free Press Awards, which celebrate local entrepreneurial talent, in October.
Run by husband-and-wife team Nigel and Elaine Bowen, who have 65 years’ combined experience within large corporate communication firms, the business provides telecoms services and bespoke IT solutions to companies across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
Mrs Bowen said: “It’s been an exciting year for us, and winning this award has been one of the highlights so far.
“Setting up a new business can be quite daunting at times, but we have had amazing business support and signposting from Menta, the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and New Anglia Growth Hub.”
Vanguard, a member company of the Diss Business Forum, was presented the award last month at a ceremony at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds, by Simon Weston, a well-known veteran of the Falklands War.
Mr Bowen said it was ‘such an honour’ to meet the ‘inspirational’ Mr Weston during the awards evening.
“Having our hard work and determination recognised by the Menta award judges means so much to us,” she said.
“We want to acknowledge the advice and guidance we have been lucky enough to receive, including that from local networking groups. We wouldn’t be where we are today without it.”
Alex Till, CEO of Menta and who helped to select the award winners, said: “It’s fantastic to recognise the development and growth of new businesses in the west of the county. There was a very strong field of entrants this year, however Vanguard Communications demonstrated a multifaceted and forward thinking company and really stood out from the crowd. We wish them every success in the future.”
