Sweet success

Attleborough and District Horticultural Society held its annual Rose and Sweet Pea Show at Peter Beales Rose Garden on Monday.

It was a beautiful sunny evening but the previous evening’s torrential rainfall had reduced the number of blooms that had managed to get to the show benches.

The many visitors who went enjoyed the beauty of the surrounding rose gardens while the judges were doing their deliberating.

Awards and trophies were presented by Mayor of Attleborough Vera Dale and Peter Beales.

Hazel Edwards won the Len Revell Trophy for the best sweet pea exhibit and also the award for the best sweet pea stem.

The Peter Beales Rose Bowl for the best rose exhibit was again won by Ray Snow, while Pat Benfell took the award for the best rose bloom.

Joy Tunmore won the prize for the best floral arrangement of roses.

There is a change of speaker for the next meeting of the Society on Wednesday, July 15, at Attleborough Junior School, Besthorpe Road, 7.30pm.

Graeme Simmonds will be giving a talk about history beneath your feet.

Visitors are welcome and all those attending are invited to take any ‘treasure’ they have unearthed in their garden or on their allotment for the speaker to comment on.
