Stowmarket mobilises to host Suffolk’s Armed Forces Day event

A free event to mark Armed Forces Day in Suffolk will be held in Stowmarket on Saturday June 25, it was announced today at Wattisham Flying Station.

It will start with a parade from Red Gables to arrive at Pikes Meadow at noon to begin an afternoon and evening of activities and performances from Wattisham and Honington Military Wives Choirs, community bands, cadet forces and the Suffolk Regiment Re-enactment Group. There will also be military heritage vehicles on show.

Cllr Derek Osborne, chairman of Mid Suffolk District Council said: “Our district is home to thousands of military personnel and their families so this is a great opportunity to celebrate military and civilian communities coming together.”

Col Jason Etherington, Wattisham’s commander, said: “I am delighted Stowmarket has been chosen to host this year’s Armed Forces Day, which will give everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women in the armed forces.”
