A Scole couple who are approaching their Platinum wedding anniversary say their successful marriage has been down to enjoying working together and spending time with their family.
Lily and Geoff Ruddock, of Reeve Close, mark 70 years since their June 2, 1945 wedding on Tuesday, and will commemorate the milestone next weekend at the Park Hotel in Diss, alongside close family.
The two met at school and both served in the military during the 1940s, with Mr Ruddock part of the Royal Engineers and Mrs Ruddock a member of the Women’s Air Force, before settling in Dickleburgh for 40 years and then Scole for the last 30 years.
Mrs Ruddock, who held various jobs including 17 years as a Dickleburgh school dinner lady, said: “The key is we are happy together. We always do everything together,” while Mr Ruddock, who worked 40 years at a local bakery, added: “It needs a bit of give and take.”
The couple have had two children, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and remained active members of the Scole Royal British Legion in their retirement, until the branch folded last year.
Daughter Jean Hinton said: “They have been great parents, always there for us.
“They are very family orientated and they are always involved in family occasions.”
