Residents call for sting on weeds at play area
Concerned residents and parents say a community centre must do more to clear nettles and rubbish, which have been overwhelming a children's play area.
Ed Davies, landlord of the Queen's Head in Eye, said that the problem is ongoing.
"The climbing frames and slides have nettles up to the height of a three-year-old. The community centre is just a mess," he said.
Town councillor Colin Ribchester agreed, adding that the community centre should do more to ensure that the area is safe for leisure activities and for children.
"Charity begins at home," he said. "We should be raising money for everybody in the town."
Community centre chairman Penny McSheehy said: "We can't get volunteers to help and we don't have the money to pay for things.
"Bernard Tatum mows the lawn but we need more help. We would like people to come forward as volunteers."
The matter will be raised at the next town council meeting, which takes place on July 16.
