Five people are to lose their jobs as shoe retailer Stead and Simpson in Diss closes its doors at the weekend.
The store, in Mere Street, will close after trading for its final day tomorrow. The Diss Express understands a retailer within the town will be moving to the premises to upsize.
A spokesperson for the group said: “We can confirm that the store is still due to close on Saturday as the landlord has found a new tenant.
“Whilst we always make every effort to re-deploy any personnel affected by a closure to nearby stores when possible, unfortunately five members of staff are being made redundant.
“We would like to thank our staff for their commitment and hard work and thank our customers for their support and custom over the years.”
A member of staff at the store said it had been a “long time coming,”
It is not the first time the shop has faced closure. In the summer of 2012 the shoe shop was to close, citing “poor performance” and “rising costs”, but remained open.
In January the Diss Express broke the news 40 Diss jobs were at risk, with Aldi in talks with the Co-operative about taking over their Mere Street store.
Stead and Simpson went into administration in 2008, but was bought by the Shoe Zone Group. The business currently has more than 220 stores nationwide.
