The Stradbroke and District RBL branch has been thanked by the Queen for their “loyal greetings” following a concert to celebrate her 90th birthday.

More than 300 people packed into Stradbroke High School on Saturday which featured a performance from the Sheringham Shantymen, on a night where more than £800 was raised for legion funds.

Branch chairman and Diss resident Michael Burton toasted the Queen and read her message, and also praised the team who had organised the concert.

The Queen’s letter read: “Please convey my warm thanks to the members of the Stradbroke and District Branch of the Royal British Legion for their loyal greetings, sent on the occasion of a concert which is being held today (Saturday) at Stradbroke High School to celebrate my ninetieth birthday.

“As Patron of the Royal British Legion, I much appreciate your kind words and your thoughtfulness in writing as you did. In return, I send my best wishes to all those who are present for a most memorable enjoyable evening.”

Among the invited guests on the night was the Suffolk County Chairman Denis Bloomfield and his wife Christine, while five Royal British Standards attended under the direction of Barney Adlington.
