A council-backed straw-fired power generation scheme is set to provide power to help unlock proposed development around Snetterton.

The 45MW plant, currently under construction, is the subject of a bid by Breckland Council to add a local power connection for the so-called A11 corridor expansion.

Breckland has identified a lack of electric capacity in Snetterton Heath.

Cllr Michael Wassell, leader of Breckland Council, said: “Reliable energy supplies are vital if we are to bring investment and growth and our investment is designed to capture for Breckland the long term growth and infrastructure improvements offered by the dualled A11 and Breckland’s ‘open for business’ policies.”

The application has been made to UK Power Networks today and the council appears confident of success.
