Post office services slashed
Residents in Little Stonham and Pettaugh face drastically reduced post office facilities, following outreach arrangements made by Post Office Ltd.
In Little Stonham, the closure of the post office will mean a reduction in services of about 38 hours.
The post office, will be replaced by a two-hour outreach service run from The Magpie pub from July 18.
In Pettaugh, residents face no post office services, as no outreach provisions have been organised within the village.
The village was supposed to receive outreach services of 11 hours each week, but those measures have been removed.
Instead, a partner service will be operated from Stonham Barns.
Postmistress Jan Scott said while there will be no break in the services provided when the post office in Pettaugh closes on July 30, the facilities in Stonham are not easily accessible.
"There is a bus but it leaves you at the end of the drive, which is half-a-mile from the main complex," she said.
A Post Office Ltd spokesman said the services at Stonham Barns – about one mile from the village – will meet the Government criteria for outreach services.
