Plea for more parking in Attleborough

A survey to help decide whether parking charges should be introduced in Attleborough has yielded its first results.

University of East Anglia students surveyed 911 people in the town last month to help Breckland district councillors decide whether it should charge for its free car parks.

The town council asked for Breckland Council to explore charges following complaints that car parks were full all day with workers and commuters, denying shoppers and visitors spaces.

A meeting of a Breckland parking task group heard although most people strongly disagreed with suggestions a multi-storey car park was needed for the town, most agreed that extra spaces were needed.

Councillors on the task group will look at the survey in more detail on December 10.

A public meeting will then be held in Attleborough as soon as possible to share the survey results.
