As Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre attracts 120,000 visitors you must expect the roads to be busy.
So if you can get to the fayre on Thursday evening, Friday, Saturday and Sunday without using your car, it will help ease the congestion and, possibly, your temper.
Extra buses are being laid on from many places and the bus station is only a short walk from the heart of the fayre. The railway station is a little further and if you are coming by train check your journey because Network Rail has had to lay on buses to replace some services from the Cambridge direction while it lays new track.
A spokeswoman for train operator Abellio Greater Anglia said: “We will do everything we can to provide a reliable rail replacement service while Network Rail carry out work to improve the track on November 28/29. Information for passengers is available on our website and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
For cyclists and their families, St Edmundsbury Council has joined with Hawstead’s Maglia Rosso cycle shop to offer free bike storage at Cornhill Walk shopping centre.
Those who use the facilities will receive a free hot drink and children will get a free gift.
However, if you have to come by car, there are many parking options.
Greene King will once again be offering its Christmas Fayre Car Park in Cullum Road on Saturday and Sunday. An all day stay at the car park (a five-minute walk from Angel Hill) will cost £5.
Additional parking will be available at Bury Rugby Club on Saturday, and the Priory School, in Mount Road, is opening its car park on Saturday and Sunday (check the school’s website www.priory.suffolk.sch.uk for more details).
Free park and walk car parks will also be available on Saturday and Sunday from the West Suffolk College (IP33 3RL) and the Council’s Olding Road (IP33 3YE) car parks, which will be signposted from all major routes.
A 1,000 place Park and Ride will be operating from 8.30am on Friday to 6pm on Sunday at Claas UK’s Saxham headquarters, situated just off the A14,
The fair will be open from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, from 10am to 8pm on Friday and Saturday, and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday.
