Thank you to the Good Samaritans

I wish to thank the lady and man who stopped to help me in Roydon Road on Monday after my fall.

And also for the trouble of taking me to the doctors.

I am now well on the mend.

Thank you for your kindness.

Frank Rice,

Manor Drive, Roydon

I would like to thank someone, but I do not know who.

I recently went to Tesco in Diss. After putting my shopping in the car I drove off, leaving my handbag in my trolley.

Someone handed it it to the security man. If you are reading this, 'Someone', I am very grateful indeed.

I hope someone does something as kind to you very soon!

E Slack,

Redgrave

Vital lessons to be learned

I hopE one of the first things the Diss Youth Council will be taught is how harmful and wasteful litter is and asked how they would cope with the problem (Young people get an introduction to politics, Diss Express, June 12).

Also I hope they will realise the cost of 'things'.

When we were children, we had to rely on our own imaginations and initiative.

Therefore, perhaps the youth council could be encouraged to set their own 'things' up and not rely on others to do it for them?

Pearce Road, Diss

They made it a success

We would like to thank everyone who helped make Saturday's Horham Bygones Country Rally such a success – the helpers and stewards, the exhibitors and stallholders, the charities and caterers, and, of course, everyone who came along for a great day out.

We hope that, when the figures are finally tallied, Horham Community Council and the other charities involved will be in for a record boost to their funds.

See you all next year.

Mike Agar,

for Horham Bygones Country Rally committee

Guides mark 100 years

In 1909, Lord Robert Baden Powell announced that he would be in Crystal Palace Park on Saturday, September 4, to show the public how the Scout Movement had progressed since the first Scout camp two years earlier.

About 11,000 Scouts joined him and among them were a group of girls, sisters of some of the Scouts, who challenged the idea that Scouting was only for boys.

They declared themselves to be Girl Scouts. Baden-Powell agreed to their request and in 1910 Guiding began.

Exactly 100 years later…Diss District Rainbows, Brownies & Guides are holding a Centenary Launch Party on Saturday, September 5, 2009, and invite anyone who has been a member at any time to join them at a camp fire to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Telephone 01379 643200 or email dmwpoppy@tiscali.co.uk to be a part of this celebration.

Diss District Commissioner,

Grateful for your votes

I would like to express my thanks to the residents of Diss and Roydon for their confidence in me to represent them for another four-year term at Norfolk County Council.

I know that the work of the county councillor is not fully understood and will endeavour to give the work a higher profile.

I was very disappointed to hear from one resident that they failed to find the polling station as no-one they asked even knew there was an election taking place, let alone where the polling station might be.

My contact details are as below.

I look forward to working with the town, parish and district councils to keep Diss and Roydon one of the best places to live and work in Norfolk.

n I would like to thank all residents who voted for me in the Norfolk County Council elections of June 4.

I also thank all who gave me the opportunity to serve them for the previous four years as their county councillor for East Depwade.

It has been a great privilege.

Night out with a difference

Hey girls, fancy a girls night out with a difference?

On Saturday, September 19, 8pm, St Nicholas Hospice Care is inviting all girls over the age of 14 to don their PJs and take part in an 11-mile moonlight circular sponsored walk round Bury St Edmunds to help raise funds to continue their vital work.

The good news is that this is not a race and no running or jogging is allowed.

The entry fee is 15 per person and for this you will receive a T-shirt and on completion a goody bag, bacon roll and hot chocolate.

To enter, contact Jenny Baskett, 01284 747614, or online at www.stnicholashospice.org.uk.

Stewards and marshals are needed on the night and a True Grit event is being organised for the boys early next year.

Roella Trudgill,

Mellis Road, Wortham
